Announcing New Editor-In-Chief of International Journal of Public Opinion Research

WAPOR’s Executive Council is pleased to announce that Dr. Porismita Borah from Washington State University has been selected as the new Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Public Opinion Research (IJPOR). Dr. Borah has previously served as an Associate Editor of IJPOR and has a distinguished record of scholarly achievement. She is an associate professor at the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, and a graduate faculty of the Prevention Science program at WSU. Her work has been published in top journals including Journal of Communication, Journal of Computer Mediated Communication, New Media and Society, and Political Communication. She has received funding from various sources including the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. In 2018-2019, she was a senior research fellow at the University of Vienna, Austria. Dr. Borah is an ad hoc reviewer for 49 journals from various fields and has served on the editorial boards of multiple journals including Communication Research and the Journal of Communication. She earned her doctorate from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and has Masters Degrees from Iowa State University and the University of Delhi, and a Bachelors Degree from Guwahati University in India. Find out more about Dr. Borah here: https://www.porismitaborah.com/

Dr. Borah will continue the journal’s tradition of publishing high quality and timely substantive and methodological papers from across the globe. Dr. Borah plans to strengthen the visibility of the journal and build an inclusive and diverse editorial structure. She will pay attention to issues pertinent to how emerging technologies have opened new ways for collecting data, integrating social media data for mixed methodological studies, and furthering theoretical understanding of public opinion. Dr. Borah will encourage research that examine how misinformation and conspiracy theories can have varied effects on societies depending on their social and political structures. Moreover, Dr. Borah will encourage papers on the politicization of science and health. She thinks there is no better time to delve into topics of science and politics to understand how they impact our attitudes and behavior. Dr. Borah will also invest some effort in developing special issues such as a comparative examination of public opinion research engaging with issues of equality and social justice, and comparative misinformation research examining the modes of dissemination and corrosive effects on different areas of the world. Her Three-year appointment begins on September 1, 2021.

The WAPOR Executive Council also wishes to thank Drs. Paul R. Brewer and Michael A. Xenos for their outstanding service as IJPOR Editors-in-Chief 2017-2021.
