The Insights Association has scored several policy victories in recent months – on Capitol Hill and in states across the U.S.
Here are some of the highlights with content links for you and your team, all made possible by your membership.
With your support, the Insights Association has:
- Defeated legislation in Philadelphia that would have cut off pharmaceutical marketing research with doctors.
- Won big funding increases for the 2020 Census in FY2019, via temporary spending bills, and in the final FY2020 federal appropriations law.
- Helped convince the Supreme Court to reject the addition of a citizenship question to the 2020 Census.
- Beat back a bill in Oregon that would have prohibited the purchase or sale of telephone numbers for unsolicited calls, including calls for research.
- Won improvements and clarifications to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) before it came into effect, and defeated many bills that would have made it much worse.
- Helped Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee harmonize their treatment of independent contractors, including respondents who receive incentives for their participation in research studies.
- Defeated legislation that would have penalized California companies that move their call centers out of the country or out of the state.
- Helped approve a new North American trade agreement (USMCA) with cross-border digital protections that benefit the insights industry.
Currently, we are actively…
- Lobbying Congress to support the model federal privacy legislation we’ve developed with Privacy for America and working against state legislation across the country that would duplicate CCPA or worse.
- Defending the insights industry against California A.B. 5, which has already spawned legal action claiming that research respondents are employees of a research company.
- Strategizing against legislation that threatens our industry, like bills in New York to specifically tax the revenue of insights companies.
Remember, we are always available to answer your questions on these and other regulatory issues.
